Suzanne Lenglen, Professional, October 1926
Suzanne Lenglen was born on May 24, 1899, near Paris, France. Overcoming childhood illness, she became a champion tennis player. Lenglen won 31 championship titles between 1914 and 1926. Chief among her titles were the Wimbledon singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. She also earned gold medals at the 1920 Olympics. A flamboyant trendsetter, Lenglen is largely credited as the first female tennis celebrity. She died in 1938.
